History
In 1995 the Eastern Los
Angeles Regional Center hired a Community development Specialist to take the lead role in gaining housing expertise for the
region. The California Department of Developmental Services contract with Regional Centers required the centers to have housing
expertise. After years of acquiring knowledge, developing/maintaining collaborative relationships and participation of affordable
housing activities it was apparent that in order to access available funding and create desired inclusive affordable housing
a separate entity was needed.. ELARC decided to become the founder of a non-profit housing corporation to serve the region.
In June 2006, ELARC executed
a contract with Home Ownership Made Easy (H.O.M.E.) to acquire affordable housing and create a non-profit housing corporation.
The housing corporations had a dedicated focus to create affordable housing options for consumers with developmental disabilities
served by the E.L.A.R.C. Key Community Housing formed to meet regional need.
